Armin Meyer is a film composer, music producer and audio engineer from Kandern, Germany. He recently graduated with a Bachelors of Music in Commercial Music Production at the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music.
Son of film director Jim Meyer and film producer Sara Meyer, Armin spent most of his life growing up in the Black Forest, close to the "Dreiländereck" or "three country corner". Starting at the age of four, Armin took piano lessons and pursued classical piano during his grade school years. He was selected to perform in his school's yearly Honors Recital seven times, performing pieces such as "Claire De Lune" and Mozart's "Fantasy in D Minor" (pictured right with piano teacher Tomi Kaufmann). Starting at the age of thirteen, Armin was introduced to the guitar and bass, and also began to write his own music.
Because of his parents' background in video production, Armin had a fascination for film from a young age. In middle school he would make home videos for school projects, and in early high school realized his love of film music. Armin started composing film-targeted music, which eventually led him to apply for the Commercial Music Production major.
In 2014 Armin moved from his home in Germany to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he recently graduated from the UC College-Conservatory of Music. Over those four years Armin studied under professional composers, engineers, producers and musicians such as Kim Pensyl, Douglas Knehans, Thomas Haines, Steve Allee and Richard Hordinski.
During summer 2015 Armin attended the CCM Film Scoring Institute, where he studied under industry professionals Jeff Rona, Sam Estes, Rob Pottorf and Brad Ritchie. At the summer institute, Armin was given the opportunity to score a cue and have it professionally recorded by a small orchestra (video in 'Film Scores').
Starting in early 2017, Armin worked on his first major feature film, Mbretëria: The Kingdom.
The film has a runtime of 84 minutes, and Armin scored 15 different cues for the film.
In 2017 and 2018, the film was selected for twenty-two festivals:
Hyjnesha në Fron (Pristina), Accolade Global Film Competition (San Diego),
Global Film Festival Awards (Los Angeles), Christian Family Film Festival (New York),
and IndieFEST Film Awards (San Diego), Worldfest Houston Int'l Film Festival (Houston)
The film has won twenty-six awards total, notably:
"Jurors' Choice Award for Best Feature Film", "Best Inspirational Feature Film",
"Best First Time Director", "Award of Excellence: Feature", and "Gold Remi Award"
In summer of 2017, Armin had the opportunity to intern at Remote Control Productions, studio of world-renowned composer Hans Zimmer. His internship lasted from mid July to the end of August, and during that time he had the opportunity to assist and sit-in with industry professionals such as Lorne Balfe, Ramin Djawadi, Benjamin Wallfisch, Alan Meyerson, and Hans Zimmer himself. Many of the jobs related to being a studio runner, including: office organization and maintenance, prompt and efficient completion of errands for studio personnel, attending working sessions with multiple film and television composers, and studio set-up for guest performers including Pharrell Williams and rising boy-wonder, JD McCrary.
By the end of his internship, Armin had made a name for himself as a studio runner and was said by multiple staff to be, "the best runner at Remote Control in multiple years", "a stellar worker". Armin hopes to return to Remote Control Productions one day.
In winter of 2017 Armin was hired as the lead sound engineer at a megachurch near his college, Christ's Church Mason. Shortly after starting work there, he met singer/rap artist Christon Gray (two-time #5 Billboard R+B albums) and over the months developed a friendship with the artist. In April of 2018 Joshua began assisting Christon on his newest solo album, set for release in Fall 2018. In May and June of 2018 Armin was asked to engineer on the album and finished up final recordings in June.
Christon Gray’s 4th studio album, Clear The Heir released October 19th, 2018.
This project was Armin’s first major-label album, after having just graduated college.
The album’s first single, “Together Forever” was released August 24th and Armin was credited as co-writer and co-producer on the track, as well as main recording engineer.
Christon’s sports-anthem single “Time Out” released September 14th on all streaming platforms, with Armin credited as a recording engineer and additional producer on the track. The song has been featured on multi-million follower Spotify playlists, and is currently in the hands of ESPN for future placements.
In late 2019 Armin scored his first award-winning score for The Traveler (approximately 45 minutes of music, part of the score can be found on Spotify). The score went on to win
2 awards for best original film score and one runner-up award in international festivals.
At the beginning of 2020, Armin began working on Secrets Beyond the Rim, a Grand Canyon documentary. The score consists of 10 cues used repeatedly throughout the documentary and is played now in a museum theater in Tennessee. A piece from this score, “New Horizons” can be found under Compositions.
In 2021 Armin moved from Ohio to the West Coast, beginning a season of commuting between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, working with composer Dan Martinez in Santa Monica on shows like Sharkdog and the Magnum PI reboot and composer/engineer/producer John Ovnik in Vegas on television ads and recording sessions.
In late 2021 Armin was called for another feature documentary, Anxiety & Depression, and wrote approximately 56 minutes of music for the score into 2022. The film has been praised in festival & movie industry circles and is actively seeking distribution deals with platforms like Netflix, Prime and more.
